Yesterday I had a thought provoking conversation with a group of managers, all department heads, who were having a group coaching session on how to best conduct courageous conversations. One of them made the point that a big challenge is sorting out with the person how they see the problem. It’s not uncommon to find yourself trying to address an issue only to discover that this wasn’t really the issue but some other underlying factor was the main driver. We all reflected together on the power of the right question to open up a difficult conversation into fruitful territory. Then today I saw this. So we who struggle valiantly to find the right question…we are in good company!
